Our story

I'm Henok Tadele. My sons Nathan and Noah are in 7th and 8th grade, and the three of us built Aksum Math.

We started because we couldn't find what we wanted. We tried a lot of math apps. Most of them wanted an account and a monthly payment, and most were collecting data on my kids the whole time they were using them. Almost none of them let us print anything, so when the boys wanted to work on paper instead of a screen, we were stuck.

We kept looking for one that got all of it right. Private, offline, printable, paid for once. We never found it, so we made it ourselves.

What Nathan and Noah actually did

They did the parts I'm bad at.

They told me when a screen looked wrong, and they were right most of the time. A lot of how the app looks now came from them. They read questions out loud and told me which ones were worded strangely, or which hints didn't actually help. They went grade by grade, topic by topic, until the whole thing felt fair.

Four of the features are theirs. Today's Math exists because they didn't want to pick what to practice, they just wanted the app to hand them something. Tricky Topics exists because they wanted it to remember what they kept getting wrong, instead of making them go find those topics again. The Shop and the Badges are entirely theirs, start to finish. I didn't have an opinion about either one, and I was probably wrong about that.

Three things I decided early

If you buy something, it should be yours. So you pay once and that's it. No subscription, no upgrade tier, no expiry.

Nothing about your child leaves your computer. No accounts, no logins, no analytics. I can't see how your child is doing, and neither can anyone else.

It works with no internet. Once it's installed, you never need to be online again.

Why "Aksum"

Aksum was one of the great civilizations of the ancient world, known for scholarship, engineering, and work that lasted. We liked the idea of building math practice the same way: solid, honest, and made with care.

It's still just me

Aksum AI Labs is one person. When you email support, I'm the one reading it and I'm the one who writes back. If you find a question that's wrong, tell me and I'll fix it, usually the same week.
