Our story

A father, his two sons, and a math tutor we wished existed.

Aksum Math wasn't built by a company in an office. It was built in a basement by a dad who writes software and his two sons — who know exactly what makes a math app annoying, because they've used the annoying ones.

We kept running into the same problems. Math apps that wanted an account before a kid could answer a single question. Apps that quietly collected data on our child. Apps that charged every month, forever, for something that should just work. Apps that stopped working without an internet connection. None of that made sense to us.

So we built our own, with one simple idea at its heart: if you buy software, it should be yours — not rented, not surveilled, not dependent on staying online. Every decision in Aksum Math serves that promise.

What we believe

About the "chief testers"

My two sons tested every single problem in Aksum Math — across all 46 topics and all eight grade levels — to make sure each one was clear, fair, and correct. If a question felt confusing or a hint didn't help, it got fixed. Having an actual student check a tool built for students turned out to be the best quality control we could ask for.

They help with the videos you'll see on our channels, too. (We keep things simple and family-run: we read and answer every message ourselves.)

Why "Aksum"?

Aksum was one of the great civilizations of the ancient world — a place of scholarship, engineering, and enduring craft. We liked the idea of math practice built to last: solid, honest, and made with care. That's the spirit we're aiming for.

Thanks for giving a small family project a look.

If Aksum Math helps your child feel a little more confident with math, that's the whole reason we built it.
